Under the infamous red steps in time square, you will find the TKTS booth. This booth sells same-day tickets for many beloved Broadway shows at up to 50% off.

Opening at 11 am, people line up to enjoy tickets that many audience members won’t have access to even if they purchase months in advance.

TKTS was started by TDF or the “Theater Development Fund.” It is a nonprofit organization that “sustains live theater and dance by engaging and cultivating a broad and diverse audience and eliminating barriers to attendance.” With this goal in mind, they created TKTS.

Broadway is my and my Mom’s thing, a fun day in the city. We started at TKTS, followed by lunch finished just in time to enjoy the Sunday matinee. The line is also a lovely experience, all excited theatergoers who love to talk about what shows they want to see and how excited they are.

English teacher Lauren Sullivan looks back fondly on the authentic city experience it provides. “You go into the city; you don’t know what show you’re going to see” “It’s a quintessential city experience.”
