Saquon Says Goodbye to the Giants

Saquon Says Goodbye to the Giants

On Monday, March 11th 2024, it was announced that Saquon Barkley- NFL running back had agreed to a three year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles.

In the 2018 NFL draft, Barkley was selected to play for the New York Giants after graduating from Penn State University. Saquon set many NFL records with the Giants and even went on to be named Rookie of the Year in 2018. In recent days, Saquon has left the Giants behind him in favor of a $37.75 million dollar 3-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The change in teams led to the mixed emotions of many fans: some distraught and some ecstatic.

JJ Sobiecki, a senior here at Village School and long time Giants fan expressed their grief stating, “It’s a tragedy that struck my whole family.”

On the other hand, John Schultz, a Penn State Graduate and Saquon Super Fan, who has been following the Running-Back since his freshman year of college, states, “It’s a good move for Barkley.  He goes to a Super Bowl contending team with a mobile QB and solid offensive weapons.  Phily paid up to get his once-in-a-generation talent.  The Giants, by contrast, lost their biggest offensive playmaker and, more importantly, the heart of their locker-room. One has to wonder what product John Mara expects to field next year.” He believes that his fellow PSU alumni’s talent will be better used and showcased with the Eagles.

I am all in! Saquon needs a ring, and Philly is stacked! And most of all, they showed him respect. Respect for his hard work and leadership.

— John Schultz
